Middle School Snack Food Donation Drive

Thank you to everyone who donated warm winter items for our most recent “Share the Warmth” donation drive for North Buncombe Middle School. We collected over two extra-large trash bags full of socks, gloves, scarves, hats, sweaters, and blankets.

Now we have been asked to collect more needed items for students at the school. Their snack closet is running low and they are seeking donations of small bags of popcorn, Gold Fish, and other chips as well as fruit snacks etc. (We've been told they do have plenty of Pop-Tarts and do not need more of those). Other quick and easy donations like gum, candy, and even Arizona Iced Teas are also welcome additions. A bin will be outside the elevator on the first floor at the Fellowship Hall for your donations. Thank you so much for your continued love and support for the children in our community.

Give Together High School Food Drive

Now through Dec. 14, we will be collecting items for the Give Together Food Drive sponsored by the North Buncombe High School Student Council. Once collected, the food will be distributed to the Flat Creek Food Pantry, ABCCM, and MANNA Food Bank along with school counselors to give to student families as needed. Place donations in the wrapped gift box located in the Fellowship Hall beside our normal ABCCM-North food donation basket.

Requested Items:
 • Non-perishable canned food; vegetables/fruits, soups, beans
 • Instant Oatmeal, pasta, rice, jelly, and ramen noodles
 • Cornbread mix, granola bars, etc.

Nursing Home and Homebound Bags

We are collecting items to donate small gift bags to the residents of Mars Hill Manor Retirement Center and our church's homebound. The Youth Advisory Panel of WMU NC (Woman's Missionary Union) will put the bags together, and our Pauline Snelson Women's Mission Group will deliver them. Items will be collected through Wednesday, Dec. 6, and we hope to make 100-125 bags. Please help us spread holiday cheer by donating chapstick, small tissues, travel size hand lotion, and/or individually packaged cookies or crackers into the labeled box by the elevator outside the Fellowship Hall.

Gutter Repair Project & Update

The sanctuary gutter repair work has started and will take about two months, depending on weather and availability of supplies. We continue to raise money for the repairs. Please make this a matter of prayer as we address the big repair cost. So far people have pledged $61,300! Our goal is $80,000, so we're making progress! May it inspire others as well to help our sanctuary building look its best. Pledges and/or donations can be made by contacting Debbie Sprinkle at the church office (645-6720, debbie@fbcwvl.org).

Gutter Repair Project & Update

We continue to raise money to repair the sanctuary gutters. Please make this a matter of prayer as we address the big repair cost. The good news is that people are stepping up to help make the repairs happen. So far people have pledged $59,000 of the $80,000 we need to raise! That’s a wonderful start. May it inspire others as well to help our sanctuary building look its best.

School Supplies Collection

To help teachers and students have all they need for the new school year, we are collecting school supplies through Wednesday, Aug 23. Supplies can be placed in marked boxes in the Fellowship Hall, Connector, and front foyer. Some needed items are: pencils, crayons, glue sticks, plastic folders, loose leaf paper, notebooks, colored pencils, backpacks, wired earbuds/headphones, tissues, and dry erase markers.

Christmas Treat Bags for Inmates and Staff

The holidays are especially hard on prison inmates. We will once again provide items for Christmas treat bags for inmates and staff at Craggy Prison. Please put any contributions in the designated box in the Fellowship Hall by Sunday, December 18.

Only store bought boxes of items like cookies, cakes, candy, gum, bags of nuts, etc. are allowed. All food items must come from a vendor or store in their original packaging. No fresh or dried fruit including raisins. Please strictly follow those guidelines. *Easy items to pick up are Little Debbie cakes, brownies, and cookies.* This is a wonderful opportunity to express to the inmates that they have not been forgotten and that God does indeed love and care for them.

On Sunday, October 31, from 3-5 pm we will have our Trunk-Or-Treat event in the parking lot. Anyone that would like to donate candy to hand out during the event can place those donations in the bin located in the Fellowship Hall. If you would like to help volunteer that day by decorating a car, handing out candy, and/or interacting with trick-or-treaters, please let Regina know as soon as possible.

We are also taking donations to support the Baptist Retirement Homes' Medicine From the Heart Program. This program helps older adults get medications more affordably. You can donate by filling up one of the designated change bottles and bringing it back to the church by Oct 31.

The Woman’s Missionary Union of North Carolina (WMUNC) is collecting items to give as gifts to incarcerated women this Christmas. Our church’s goal is to provide 100 bottles of lotion, to provide some soothing softness on hard days. Prisons require exact sizes, so please get only plastic bottles between 8 and 11 ounces, with NO pump. Bottles must be at the church by November 7.

Creation Care - Put Those Pill Bottles to Good Use

Did you know that nearly 70 percent of Americans take at least one prescription drug, and more than half take two? That’s a lot of empty pill bottles when the medication is gone. While some of these bottles are recycled or reused, many of them end up in landfills. One group is working to change that. Cincinnati-based Matthew 25: Ministries, an international aid and disaster-relief organization, accepts donations of empty plastic pill bottles that are either sent to places where medical supplies are needed or are shredded and recycled…..
