Centennial Celebration Preparations

Did you know we’ll be putting out a book about the hundred year history of our church? If you have any stories or input you can share, we would love to have them. And if you have good pictures to offer, those are welcome too. Everyone who has been a part of this church for the last hundred years is important to our story.

Memorabilia would be especially helpful as we prepare to set up a History Room that displays our story. Do you have anything from the church “back in the day”? We’re interested in big things (furniture, decorations, banners) and also little things (mementos, programs, documents). You can loan it until after the Centennial, and any donations of large items can be tax deductible as well. Call or e-mail the church office to let us know. And if it would be easier to just make a donation to help with centennial celebrations, that would also be very welcome, since we want to have a grand celebration worthy of our grand story.

By now you should’ve received a Save the Date card. There are more available, so if you know people that can be invited, either let us know where to send them or stop by the office to get some (stamps are provided!). And look at the Sign-Up Shack to see our 100 Books for 100 Years. It’s a wishlist of 100 new good books that we want to get so that our church library’s is full of helpful resources.

Stories Needed for 100th Anniversary Book

The Centennial committee invites you to share a brief, personal memory for our 100th Anniversary book to be published next year. Here are the guidelines:
1. Please keep it short– one paragraph
2. Write about a memory:
• A special program or event you attended
• Something funny/cute/memorable a child said or did at church
• Memory about a person who had a great impact on you or something they
said/did
• A situation that really influenced you
• A memory about SS/BTU/GAs/RAs, etc.
• Memories from a mission trip or special music program
• Something special that brought you to this church, or why you joined
3. These can be funny, a poignant, or inspirational.
4. Please give us the freedom to edit your words if the need arises. We promise to
stay true to the spirit of your memory.
5. If you type, that is helpful. Otherwise write it out clearly and turn in to office.
Please include your name. If e-mailing, send it to saralyncollins@gmail.com
6. Those of you who have already been asked to either write about a specific topic
or an update, please send it in as soon as possible.
7. Send in contributions and memories in NO LATER than Dec. 12th.
(Better still, do it now while you are thinking about it! 😊 )

Preserving Our Story - Church History Room

One way that the church will celebrate its 100th Anniversary next year is by creating a history room. We’ll need your help collecting artifacts from the past to display. Do you have anything from the church “back in the day”? We’re interested in big things (furniture, decorations, banners) and also little things (mementos, programs, documents). We are still in the early stages of planning, so we don’t know what we might have room for, but we welcome donations (or loans, if you prefer). Start looking through old boxes and see what you can find; then call or e-mail the church office to let us know.

Dry Ridge Museum Opening – Saturday, Sept. 25

Dry-Ridge-museum.jpg

Everyone is invited to attend and celebrate the grand (re)opening of the Dry Ridge Museum. It has been closed with its artifacts in storage while the new Community Center was built at Lake Louise. Now that construction has finished, everything is ready to be shown at the museum’s new beautiful location, under the wise guidance of our church’s own Jan Lawrence. So come see and celebrate our local area’s history, people, and story—Saturday, Sept. 25 at 11:00 am.
