Fun

Community Egg Hunt

This year we are once again partnering with the Methodist church in hosting an Easter Egg Hunt for families in the community. The event will be at 2pm on Saturday, March 30th on our lawn, between the two churches. If you are able to volunteer that day to help hide eggs or greet families please let Regina know. Flyers for the event can be found on the Sign-Up Shack for you to grab and share throughout the community and with friends and family.

Improved Basketball Area

Our basketball area has gotten an upgrade! The years had really worn it down, but now it's nice and shiny. So put your stuff on the new bench while you practice your free-throws and 3-pointers! Jackson Alexander spearheaded the work as part of his Eagle Scout project, so a big thank you to him and everyone in Boy Scout Troop 15!

Pool Day Field Trip! (Wed, Aug 16)

Children, youth, family members, and friends are invited on a fun field trip to the Waynesville Rec Center Indoor Pool. Meet at the church at 10 am or at the park at 11 am. Pack your swimsuit, towel, bag lunch, and a drink. The church is covering the cost to swim but you need to RSVP to Regina by this Sunday, August 13, if you plan to go so she can get a headcount and permission forms. We’ll arrive back at the church by 4:30 pm.

A Great Week at Youth Camp

The youth guys returned from a full week of Youth Camp in Maryville, TN. They had lots of fun and played lots of games. They also learned about the relentless love of God, the relentless way of Jesus, and the relentless community of faith. Every morning they asked together, “Who will separate us from the love of Christ? No one! Will affliction or distress or persecution or peril? No! Why? Because we are beloved together!” The next time you see one of the youth guys at church, ask them which afternoon activity they did, and what their favorite part of Youth Camp was.

Mark Your Calendars: October 31, Trunk-Or-Treat

Due to continuing concerns regarding large groups meeting indoors, our Fall Festival this year will again be a Trunk-Or-Treat event. Like last year, it will be outdoors, socially distanced, and we will be requiring all participants to wear masks.

The event will be on Sunday, October 31, from 3-5 pm in our church parking lot. Please consider helping with this event by decorating your car and handing out treats, or by directing people and representing the church. Last year we had a great turn-out and a lot of fun, so expect it to be even better this year.

Valentine's Day - "Not So Secret" Admirers

Val masks crop.jpg

This year, in lieu of our annual Youth-Senior Adult Valentine Banquet, we are going to celebrate with heartfelt, home-delivered valentines. Here is how it will work: All senior adults that are interested in participating will contact Regina (828-748-9034, regina@fbcwvl.org) by Friday, Feb. 5 to sign up. That evening she will contact everyone and let them know who their valentine is. For your valentine, you are asked to creatively let them know what you admire about them. You can make a homemade card, write a heartfelt note, create a fun video, bake them a sweet treat, etc. Deliver your creations to the church or Regina can pick them up anytime before Friday, Feb. 12. On Sunday, Feb. 14, after the church service, our wonderful youth will deliver the treats from our "admirers" to their "valentines." However, your admirer and your valentine will be two different people. You will not know who your admirer is until you get your gift. No need to spend money or make anything elaborate; heartfelt and homemade valentines are the best. When signing up, please let Regina know if you have any dietary restrictions (nut allergies, gluten intolerance, diabetes, etc.) so she can inform your valentine in case they want to include sweets.

"Go Tell It on the Mountain" - FBCW kids

The sound of children’s voices is extra-special at Christmas. We are so proud of our children in FaithBuilders! Thank you to parents, volunteers, Mrs. Regina, and Mrs. Jane for helping us to to meet on Zoom and in person this year. We pray that God will bless you and your family with gifts of peace, hope, joy, and love this Christmas and in the new year. We hope you enjoy this musical gift from our Children’s Choir:

Volunteers Needed for Trunk-Or-Treat

In place of our Fall Festival this year, we will be hosting a socially distanced, outdoor, and family friendly Trunk-Or-Treat event. On Saturday, October 31, from 2-4 pm we will invite families to our parking lot where they can show off their costumes, fellowship, take some fun family photos, and get some wonderful treats. In order to keep everyone safe we will be spacing out the cars, handing out masks, and limiting the number of people in the area at a given time to reduce the risk of germ spreading. However, in order to make this event work, we will need several volunteers. If you are able to decorate your car and hand out treats, or help with parking and crowd control, please let Regina know as soon as possible. There will also be a sign up sheet on the Sign-up Shack in the Fellowship Hall.

If you are unable to help by being there in person, please consider picking up a couple extra bags of candy the next time you go shopping and putting it in the donation bin in the Fellowship Hall. This will help us reduce the cost of having to purchase treats for our guests that afternoon.

Music & Memories

choir_book.jpg

Our Minister of Music, Jane, has been making the most of the quarantine time, and put together a lovely scrapbook with sweet snapshots of our church choir and other music activities over the years. It is on display in the church Library, so feel free to step in and enjoy looking at the fun photos and the fun people in them.

Worship Outtakes Video

We love putting together our online worship service each week, which we hope blesses everyone who participates. But not everything we record makes the final cut. Moving the camera, moving people, or when we mess up and can't help but laugh--those parts aren't included in the finished video. So we thought you might enjoy watching some of those funnier moments, and to peek behind-the-scenes.

Honoring Our 2020 Graduates

Congratulations to our 2020 Graduates! Our Church family is very proud of you! We recognized these (and other graduates) during the worship service on June 7 (watch that presentation here! and below) and mailed them a special gift from the church. Feel free to send them your individual congratulations as well. Way to go, grads!
