Creation Care - Reduce Trash & Costs by Buying in Bulk
Plastic containers and other packaging are a significant percentage of discarded materials. We can make progress toward reducing that amount by purchasing items in bulk (less packaging required) and by refilling containers we already have. Below are some local businesses that offer opportunities to do just that. Some refill practices have been adjusted due to the pandemic; it’s best to check with each vendor regarding current practices.
French Broad Food Co-Op: carries a large selection of bulk oil, vinegar, sweeteners, tea, herbs & spices, nuts, grains, sugars & flours, unpackaged bars of soap, and local produce.
To The Brim Refill Store: sells bulk home cleaning products (laundry detergents, all-purpose cleaners, dish soaps, floor cleaner, toilet cleaner, dishwasher gel, pet shampoo, linen spray, and more), personal care products (shampoos, conditioners, body wash, soaps, toner, astringent, hand sanitizer, lotions, facial cleansers, toothpaste tablets, and more), and a selection of plastic-free goods.
Ware Asheville: offers locally made refillable cleaning supplies from Fillaree, such as bulk liquid pump soap and all-purpose home cleaning spray.
West Village Market: sells bulk dry pantry staples, candy, and tea. They also offer locally made refillable cleaning supplies from Fillaree, such as bulk liquid pump soap and all-purpose home cleaning spray.

This week Haywood Street Respite received the single-use plastic utensils our congregation has collected thus far. Thank you, Jane McCoy, for making that delivery on our behalf! Many thanks to all of you who have contributed. We will continue to collect sealed packages of plastic utensils in the marked containers in the vestibule and Fellowship Hall.
