Mountain State Fair Ministry

Church volunteers had a great time working at the Mountain State Fair this year! In the Break Tent we made coffee and sandwiches for fair workers to have for free, at the Ministry Booth we gave out teddy bears and offered prayer support to folks walking by, and in courtesy carts we gave rides to people with mobility needs. In everything, we got to show the love of Jesus!

Christmas Treat Bags for Inmates and Staff

The holidays are especially hard on prison inmates. We will once again provide items for Christmas treat bags for inmates and staff at Craggy Prison. Please put any contributions in the designated box in the Fellowship Hall by Sunday, December 18.

Only store bought boxes of items like cookies, cakes, candy, gum, bags of nuts, etc. are allowed. All food items must come from a vendor or store in their original packaging. No fresh or dried fruit including raisins. Please strictly follow those guidelines. *Easy items to pick up are Little Debbie cakes, brownies, and cookies.* This is a wonderful opportunity to express to the inmates that they have not been forgotten and that God does indeed love and care for them.

Cookbooks Are Here!!

The Cookbook Team is proud to announce that our new 100th Anniversary Cookbooks have arrived and are now available for purchase. Each book costs $15 and will be available for you to buy after the service on Sunday in the Fellowship Hall and vestibule. If you plan on getting 5 or more, please let Regina know ahead of time so she can have your order pulled and ready. Additional purchases can be made throughout the week by emailing Regina and coordinating a time for pick up. You can pay by cash, check, or card using our online giving platform here (additional processing fee applies). They will make excellent Christmas gifts!

Coffee Snack Fellowship starts Sunday morning at 9:30am!

If there's one thing we realized during our pandemic year, it's how valuable, important, and fun it is to be with other good people. Since we missed out on so much time together, we're starting a weekly time of connecting and chatting every Sunday morning. At 9:30 am in the Fellowship Hall, there will be coffee, juice, and light snacks to help us touch base and start the day off well. All are welcome!

A new church cookbook in time for Christmas giving!

As part of our upcoming Centennial celebration, we are putting together a new church cookbook, and WE NEED YOU!

  • Review previous FBCW cookbook(s), and nominate your favorite recipes to be sure they are included again in the centennial anniversary cookbook. (Cite the cookbook, page, name of contributor, and name of the dish.)

  • Submit your recipes to be included in the cookbook–new recipes or old favorites!

  • Remember to include some gluten-free and vegetarian recipes if you have one that's tried and true, as well as any other special dietary delights that you count on!

The cookbook is going to be fantastic because of your contributions, so everyone is invited to submit recipes.
We've set up a new email account to receive your nominations for favorite FBCW recipes and your submissions of your own recipes for the cookbook. Send to:
fbcw.100yearsoffood@gmail.com by July 18th!

Thank you,
Anita W., June W., and Kathy P.

Church Drive-in Picnic – Sunday, September 27

We can’t do many normal things these days, but we can still find creative ways to enjoy being together. On Sunday evening, September 27, we’ll have a Drive-in Picnic here in the parking lot. This will let us celebrate and enjoy the great kitchen equipment we got in May but haven’t been able to use much because of the pandemic. So plan to come, find a good parking spot, and enjoy eating in your car, outside, or even drive-thru. Let us know by Thurs, Sept 24, how many plates/boxes you’ll want.

It can be like an old-fashioned drive-in: “Let’s go to the hop!”

Monday Lunches for Homeward Bound

We are partnering with Homeward Bound and the Asheville Poverty Initiative to serve bag lunches on Mondays this month to our friends staying at the Red Roof Inn. The homeless clients being served by Homeward Bound (including Room In the Inn) were first moved to the Civic Center when the pandemic began and were later transferred to the Red Roof Inn with FEMA funding. However, they are relying on community organizations like us for food.

This summer we were able to take our budgeted money left over from our Pritchard Park fund to do a hamburger dinner for these individuals, and last month when the Asheville Poverty Initiative reached out to us for help we were able to take our budgeted Room In the Inn funds to provide bag lunches for several Mondays in August. Now, thanks to a generous monetary donation, we are able to extend this service and will be continuing to provide meals for them.

If you would like to get involved with this ministry please let Regina know. We need volunteers to help make sandwiches, make home baked goods (cookies, pound cake, brownies), pack the bags, and deliver the packed lunches to the Red Roof Inn on Mondays between 11:30am-12:30pm. We will make 65 bagged lunches each week.
